The tonal, head-to-toe activewear look, is everywhere. It might have started as a casual trend, worn by people popping to the shops on their way to yoga, but it’s now just as popular for all-day wear, nights out and Instagram posts.

Influencers have been accused of editing photos, so that their crotch looks as smooth as a Barbie doll’s. In real life, when clothes are super tight, the labia or vulva may show – it can’t be helped.

It’s not a good idea to wear clothes so tight that the labia show. Not because labia are anything to be ashamed of – but because tight clothes can aggravate and even trigger cystitis and they can create the perfect conditions for bugs to thrive.

If you’ve been trolled because your labia is visible in a photo, please know there is no reason to be ashamed. Yes, you have labia. That’s normal! Some labia are visible outside of the outer labia and some are asymmetrical – all vulvas are different and yours is not abnormal.
We need to stop making people feel ashamed of their bodies. Maybe then, people won’t feel the need to make changes to themselves. Instead, they can feel confident in the knowledge that no two vulvas are the same – and that’s normal.
